What is geodesy?

Geodesy is a science of applied mathematics that deals with accurately measuring and understanding the properties of earth that include geometric shape, space orientation and gravitational field. One example of the work of Geodesy Engineering is topographical map that is essential for many fields of work, either personal usage (in that of Property Certificate, and Property Taxation), corporate and government’s purpose.

Geodesy Study Program  in Indonesia

The demand of human resource in mapping survey in private and governmental work is increasing. As of today, only four public universities in Indonesia provide Geodesy Engineering major. These four universities are Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Gajah Mada University (UGM), 10 November Institute of Technology (ITS), and Diponegoro University (UNDIP). On the other hand there are eight private universities providing the program, namely: Bandung National Institute of Technology (ITENAS), Winaya Mukti University of Bandung, Malang National Institute of Technology (ITN), Pakuan University of Bogor, Padang Institute of Technology (ITP), Sumatera Institute of Technology (ITERA), Public Polytechnics of Banjarmasin, and University of Lampung.

The History of UNDIP Geodesy

Considering the increasing demand of human resource in Survey and Mapping, the Faculty of Engineering of UNDIP launched its study program of Geodesy Engineering in 2004. The commencement was under the approval of the Department of National Education and the Decision of Directorate General of Higher Education Number 3774/D/T/2004 dated 15 of September 2004concerning the establishment of the Study Program of Geodesy Engineering. The appointed Head of the Study Program was Ir. Bambang Sudarsono, M.S. and the Secretary of the Program Ir. Hani’ah, M.Si.(for   the period of 2005 – 2009 and 2009 – 2013). In the following period of 2013 – 2017 the Head of the Program was succeeded by Ir. Sawitri Subiyanto, M.Si., and the Secretary of the Program by Moehammad Awaluddin, ST., MT. On 15 of March 2018, the Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., appointed 22 new university officialsand the oath-taking ceremony of Civil Servant (PNS) in the Hall of Academic Senate MWA ofUNDIP. Of the 22 appointedofficials was Dr. Yudo Prasetyo, ST., MT. The new Head of the Department of Geodesy Engineering of UNDIP for the period of 2018 – 2022.
