On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the Undip Department of Geodesic Engineering held a public lecture for students who were completing their final assignments. The lecture aimed to expand their scientific knowledge and encourage collaboration with research institutions in the field of geospatial. The lecture featured Dr. Susilo, S.T.,M.T., the Head of the BRIN Geospatial Research Center, as the main speaker. He discussed the opportunities and challenges in geospatial research, with Bambang Darmo Y., S.T.,M.T., a lecturer of Undip Geodesic Engineering, as the moderator. The event was attended by approximately 100 participants comprising of students, lecturers, and practitioners interested in geospatial research at R. Teater, Dean’s Building Lt. 4, Undip Faculty of Engineering.
The event commenced with an opening speech from Dr. L.M. Sabri, S.T., M.T., who is the Head of the Geodesy Engineering Department. He expressed his appreciation for Dr. Susilo, S.T., M.T., who delivered a public lecture at the Faculty of Engineering. Dr. Sabri hoped that this activity would improve the scientific knowledge of undergraduate students studying Geodesy Engineering at Undip. Furthermore, this event marked the start of a research collaboration between educational institutions and BRIN, particularly in the geospatial field.
According to Prof. Dr.nat.tech. Siswo Sumardiono S.T., M.T., the Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Engineering in Undip, students can enhance their skills and interests in their respective science fields by collaborating with educational institutions and the BRIN research institute. The presence of BRIN in the Faculty of Engineering is expected to offer opportunities for students to intern in line with their educational fields through the MBKM program. This will enable them to broaden their scientific knowledge alongside expert researchers at BRIN.
During the presentation, the speaker shared advice on how to tackle challenges and capitalize on opportunities while conducting research in the geospatial field. Additionally, they highlighted the useful features offered by Elsa BRIN’s services for students. Elsa BRIN is an electronic service provided by BRIN, offering a range of programs including fieldwork practice, guidance for final projects in various sub-fields, research internships, practical work internships, testing, analysis, measurement, instrument calibration, and research collaboration through the MBKM program. Access to the service can be obtained through the website https://elsa.brin.go.id/.
At the event, students had the chance to share their research ideas and studies. The speakers then engaged in a Q&A session with the students. The students enthusiastically participated by presenting their ideas and seeking guidance from BRIN experts on how to conduct their final research projects. Dr. L M Sabri, S.T., M.T., organized this event to encourage students to enhance their scientific knowledge in the geospatial field through direct discussions with experts in their respective fields. This would inspire students to conduct their final research projects and establish connections with external advisers outside of Undip, including those from research institutions like the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
