On February 6 2024, the Geodetic Engineering Department held a preparatory meeting for the 2023/2024 even semester. The meeting was chaired by Dr. LM Sabri, ST., MT as Head of the Geodetic Engineering Department and Head of the Geodetic Engineering Undergraduate Study Program discussed various current issues, especially after the publication of Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 53 of 2023 concerning Quality Assurance in Higher Education. As stated by the Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, SE, M.Si, each study program is required to prepare a curriculum that must adapt to current developments at the local, national and global levels.
At the curriculum workshop held at the Grand Candi Hotel Semarang the day before, the UNDIP Chancellor elected for the 2024-2025 period emphasized the importance of a sense of responsibility for study programs and lecturers towards the large number of undergraduate graduates who are unemployed due to a lack of communication skills, especially in English. Responding to Prof. Suharnomo concerns, the Geodetic Engineering Department will set a standard TOEFL (SEU) score of 500 for UNDIP Geodetic Engineering undergraduate students. Several decisions were made during the meeting regarding TOEFL scores, namely: 1) Students who have achieved a score of 500 are permitted not to take the TOEFL test until the final TOEFL test before graduation, 2) Students with a TOEFL score below 500 are required to take the TOEFL test every semester or show a certificate of taking an English course at a recognized institution, and 3) students with a TOEFL score below 500 are only permitted to take a maximum of 22 credits. The rules that will be implemented in the 2024/2025 odd semester are expected to significantly improve students’ ability to communicate and compete in English.
The hot topic that was discussed in the meeting was the issue of curriculum revision. The 2020 curriculum that has been implemented so far is actually good enough to produce competent graduates, although it still needs improvements to respond to global changing. One aspect that is still lacking in the 2020 curriculum is the need to provide learning freedom for Gen-Z students. Regarding the mandate of the Minister of Education and Culture, in the odd semester 2024/2025, the Program will implement the 2020 Transitional Curriculum as preparation for the implementation of the 2025 Curriculum.
One of the important changes that will be immediately implemented for new students of the Class of 2024 is a study load of 20 credits in semester 1 and semester 2. It is hoped that the reduction in study load will make it easier for Gen-Z students to adapt to their new environment and make it easier for new students to explore activities. extra time outside campus that suits his passion . The explicit changes seen in the 2025 Curriculum are the upgrading of Elective Courses to Compulsory Courses to improve disaster and cadastral competencies for UNDIP Geodesy graduate candidates. In the 2025 curriculum which will take effect in the 2025/2026 Odd Semester, the elective courses RADARGRAMETRY and LAND VALUATION will be mandatory courses. The addition of these mandatory courses resulted in the unification of the PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE courses into RESEARCH METHODOLOGY and PROJECT MANAGEMENT into ENTREPRENEURSHIP. Students from the 2020 and 2021 batches who graduate before August 2025 can continue to use the 2020 Curriculum. Changes in course content will also be made to the 2025 curriculum to further increase the comparative and competitive competencies of undergraduate students in the program to be the next geospatial professionals.
